PAMPORE: A non-local company luring people with heavily discounted household items in Pampore has duped many residents of their money.
A number of people from Pulwama, Srinagar and Budgam had made payments to M/S Satlus Traders for goods at cheap rates and were waiting for their orders.
The company had set up office at Drangbal area of Pampore town and had delivered goods to many customers initially.
The duped customers said that the first deliveries were a trap to lure more and more people.
“My neighbour got a refrigerator at only 5,000 rupees. Seeing the quality and capacity I also got tempted and booked for a refrigerator and washing machine and other items,” said Javed Ahmad Sheikh, who had booked items worth 84,000 rupees.
Abdul Majid Bhat of Zaffron Shopkeepers and Traders Association Pampore told Kashmir Reader that the association had lodged a complaint in Police station Pampore after suspecting the modus operandi of the company and the dealer who supplies them the goods.
“It was an unusual business that a dealer was selling an item at half the market price. It was dubious and seemed to be a fraud being carried out,” Majid said, adding that the Association members visited the office to check the permission and legality of their business which “proved to be a fraud”.
He said that as soon as the association, along with some residents, filed the complaint the persons who claimed to be from Chennai, switched off their mobile phones and also fled from their residence. A police official told Kashmir Reader that they have received bills worth seven lakh rupees from the duped customers.
“An FIR 153/2017 under section 420, 406RPC have been registered in the case and the hunt for accused have been taken,” said the police official, adding
that their bank account with 60 rupees balance (Oriental Bank Srinagar) have been frozen.
He also said that many items which probably would have been for delivery were confiscated from their office.
He said the main accused in the case is Shaam Sundaram who had set up the company with four others from Chennai.
