Anantnag: Two people-one of them a minor girl-were killed and two others were injured when a pine tree fell over people and a private car in Pahalgam area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
The deceased, who were on a picnic at the tourist destination, were identified as 12 year old Uzma Hamid, daughter of Abdul Hamid Bhat of Kandizal area in Pampore and Hilal Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Razzaq from Bemina in Srinagar.
As per reports a damaged pine tree fell over pedestrians and a Hyundai car, bearing number JK01W-8167, in the parking lot of Betaab valley here in Pahalgam.
“Two people were killed on spot, while two others were injured who have been shifted to Srinagar for specialized treatment,” Block Medical Officer (BMO) Sallar, Dr Tula Singh, told Kashmir Reader.
The injured duo has been identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Jalla, son of Muhammad Sultan and Fazil Yousuf son of Muhammad Yousuf, both residents of Bemina in Srinagar.
Uzma, as per reports was on a picnic with her school and was hit by the tree while she was walking in the parking lot.
Bhat was also there with his friends, who have also been injured in the mishap.
The people in Pahalgam have termed the mishap as “avoidable” if the concerned department would have been a little pro-active and chopped off the damaged trees.
“There are many damaged pine trees around here and all of them are highly vulnerable. The concerned department should take immediate steps to prevent any such incident in future,” the locals said.
