Kashmir rafting marathon on 3rd August

Srinagar: With a view to promote adventure tourism in Ganderbal district the Tourism Department is organizing Kashmir Rafting Marathon in collaboration with Adventure Tour Operators Association of Kashmir (ATOAK) on 3rd August. The other purpose for going through with the program is to inculcate and foster a spirit of white water sports among youth which would in turn help promote adventure tourism in the valley.
13 teams have confirmed their participation. Each team shall comprise of 7 paddlers. There will be a tough competition on about 10 kms treacherous waters of river Sindh from Wussan to Woyil Bridge.
Director Tourism Mahmood Ahmad Shah said that J&K has tremendous scope for different soft and extreme adventures.
He informed that Ganderbal district has dense forests, gushing streams and river, serene lakes, lofty mountains, fabulous meadows and pastures for trekking and favorable wind conditions for aero sports.
He further said that Great Lakes trek is recognized as one of the best treks world over which attracts hundreds of tourists every year here.
President ATOAK informed that Sonamarg is one of the best adventure destinations and could offer best trekking, climbing, rafting, kayaking, tubing, skiing, snowboarding and paragliding simultaneously which is not possible at any other destination in the country.
Muhammad Yusuf Adventure Tour Operator and General Secretary ATOAK hailed the efforts of tourism department for trying to bring Wussan on tourism map of the valley.
The participants who need transport have been asked to report at TRC Srinagar on 3rd August at 8.30 am where the buses will be available. All others may report directly at Wussan.
