Urges people to hold peaceful protest after Friday prayers
SRINAGAR: The joint resistance leadership on Wednesday said the BJP-led government is working on crushing the people’s movement and pushing them towards what they term as the “final solution”. It also accused the chief minister Mehbooba Mufti of “quietly aiding and facilitating” India’s “illegal occupation” of Jammu Kashmir.
In a statement, the leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik said a crackdown and a “propaganda blitzkrieg” has been launched against the resistance leadership and their activists to target and implicate them in fabricated criminal cases.
They said the people’s movement is being defamed and undermined as “sponsored Islamic terrorism abetted by Pakistan”. “This major ploy aimed at strengthening and institutionalising New Delhi’s illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir is being quietly aided and facilitated by chief minister Mehbooba Mufti who was once a great votary of facilitating dialogue with GoI for the resolution of Kashmir dispute,” they said.
They condemned the arrest of resistance leader and Democratic Freedom Party chairman Shabir Ahmed Shah by the Enforcement Directorate and subsequently taking him to Delhi for questioning and arrest of other Hurriyat leaders by NIA, saying this tantamount to kidnapping of these leaders.
The leadership also termed the suspension of life imprisonment awarded to soldiers involved in the Machil fake encounter case as “murder of justice” and said “time is witness that despite thousands of incidents of grave human rights violations committed by forces, not a single soldier was punished”.
“Suspending the punishment to soldiers involved in the Machil fake encounter clarifies how a system is working hard to ensure clean chit and (boost the) morale (of) those involved in the genocide of Kashmiri people,” they said and urged people to peacefully protest after Friday prayers against this “murder of justice”.
“People will also protest the persecution and arrest of resistance leaders by GoI through its agencies,” they said.
The leadership said that seventy years of people’s movement of self-determination has been nourished by the blood and supreme sacrifices of life and honour of lakhs of people of Jammu and Kashmir. “Now our younger generation, keenly conscious of this, are also struggling to seek this fundamental right and like every political movement of this nature, it is vibrant, dynamic and constantly adapting to changing times with the values of justice and right to sovereignty at its core. And as long as these values are dear to us, we can never be defeated.”
