SRINAGAR: Ameer Muslim Deeni Mahaz (MDM) Dr Muhammad Qasim on Sunday said he had approached court to allow him to communicate with his incarcerated ailing wife Aasiya Andrabi, who is in Amphala Jail, Jammu but was denied permission saying the issue was “under the purview of jail authorities”.
A spokesperson of MDM in a statement issued here said Qasim was couple of months ago assured by jail authorities that he would be allowed to talk to his wife. “But now, the jail authorities have informed him that they had sent the matter to home ministry and are awaiting reply,” he said.
“Should husband and wife be allowed to talk or not is now to be decided by the home ministry. The environment of terror and tyranny created by PDP and BJP is unparalleled in (the) history of Kashmir and was not even seen in the worst period of Ikhwan in 1996,” he said.
The spokesperson said J&K is “probably the only state in the world where communication between husband and wife is subservient to the orders of home ministry”.
“MDM is not astonished by this tyrannical approach of the government towards Dr Qasim and Aasiya Andrabi and this in no way will break their resolve,” he said.
