Workshop on M.Com curriculum design at CUK

SRINAGAR: Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir today inaugurated a one-day workshop for “designing curriculum, structure/course contents of M.Com Programme,” organised by the Department of Management Studies.
Dean School of Business, Prof. S Fayyaz, Registrar, University of Kashmir, Prof. Khursheed Ahmad Butt, Professor of Commerce, University of Allahabad, Prof. S A Ansari, Head Department of Commerce, Guru Nanak Dev University, Prof. Jaspal Singh, Head Department of Management Studies, CUK, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah, Director Admissions CUK, Prof. Abdul Gani, Professor of Commerce, Department of Commerce, University of Kashmir, Prof. S M Shafi, other faculty members of the department of Management Studies were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir asked the participating experts to devise the curriculum for Masters in Commerce programme, which would be different to that offered by other higher educational institutions for the same course in the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
“The programme should be a distinctive one and the curriculum should reflect that,” Prof. Mehraj ud Din said, adding the university launched the programme, as there was huge scope in the financial institutions and other multinational companies for the students opting it.
Dean School of Business Studies, Prof. S Fayyaz while addressing the participants said the industrial, business financial and other allied sectors direly need candidates with Commerce background. “The curriculum should be framed so that the students could gain extensive and vast knowledge about the finances and other related issues,” he added.
Head of the Department, Management Studies, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah said the course structure for the M.Com would include the newly introduced Goods and Services Tax (GST) and computerized accounting. “These two subjects are being introduced for the first time in the Commerce curriculum,” he said.
