Protestors resent ‘harassment’ by traffic police

Srinagar: Scores of people staged a protest here against what they described the “highhandedness of the SSP traffic”, who they alleged has been misusing her office to instill fear among commuters.
The protestors assembled at Press Enclave, Srinagar and alleged that the traffic police under SSP Sargun Shukla was resorting to unnecessary harassment in the name of traffic regulation.
“Rule of law must ensure smooth running of society however the traffic SSP has been on rampage and has been harassing commuters plying in Srinagar roads,” Umair Ronga, a protester, said.
“An officer must not be hated for the work they do but unfortunately she has stopped to look inside her department. People are not fond of breaking traffic regulations but the unnecessary stopping must end,” he said.
Protestors demanded that the SSP be transferred immediately “so that people may have a sigh of relief”.
“The daily harassment of commuters must end and sense must prevail,” they said.
