Kangan: Residents of Kangan and adjoining areas on Thursday staged protests outside sub-divisional magistrate office Kangan against delay in issuing Aadhar cards to them.
Chanting slogans against authorities the protesters also blocked Srinagar-Leh highway at Kangan market bringing traffic to halt for some time.
“We are visiting Kangan everyday to file the documents to get Aadhar cards but return disappointed as every day we are being told to come on next day” a protestor said.
“We demand immediate issuance of Aadhar cards so that we do not suffer,” they said.
Police and civil officials pacified the protesters after assuring redress of their grievances.
Tehsildar Kangan Mushtaaq Ahmad Bijad said the problem arose because of overcrowding.
“We are able to issue only 40 Aadhar cards in a day, for which we have already asked and notified the people to approach the office village wise. We appeal them to follow the schedule to avoid overcrowding,” Bijaad said.
SDM Kangan Nisar Ahmad said there was some confusion among among people about the schedule and the matter has been sorted out.
“To ease the process we have also changed the venue of enrolling center,” Ahmad said.
