Baramulla: A soldier shot dead an army major in Uri along Line of Control after an altercation broke out between the two over use of cell phone, army said.
Army’s Srinagar based defence spokesperson Colonel Rajash Kalia confirmed the killing, describing it was “unfortunate”. He said an investigation has been started into the incident.
The slain officer identified as major major Shiker Thapa of 71 Armored regiment posted with 8-Rashtriya Rifles reprimanded a soldier for using cellphone, an official said. This resulted into the argument between the two and the soldier pumped bullets into the major killing him on the spot, the official said.
The slain officer was removed to a hospital by other troopers where doctors declared him brought dead. The accused soldier, it was learnt, has been arrested.
