Maraz Adbi Sangam holds elections

SRINAGAR: The general elections of Maraz Adbi Sangam were held on Sunday at Town Hall Bijbehara. The voting started at 11 am and concluded at 3 pm.

Zafar Muzafar, Chief Editor Encyclopaedia, J&K Academy of Art Culture and Languages, was present as observer besides two more observers appointed by the election commission, an official press release issued here said.

According to the release, 20 literary organisations out of 24 cast 22 out of 27 votes and 91 members out of 132 members from general body voted. A total of 113 votes were cast out of 159 votes.

Presidential candidate Kaleem Bashir secured 98 votes while as his rival Masroof Khalil secured 15 votes. Kaleem Bashir was declared successful by 83 votes. For general secretary post, 95 votes were cast in favour of Prof Nisar Nadeem while as his rival Muzafar Dilber secured 17 votes. One vote was rejected. Prof Nisar Nadeem was declared successful by 78 votes.

Riyaz Anznoo, Izhar Mubashir, and Dr Gulzar Ahmad were the presiding officers.

The results were declared by the election commissioner, Yousuf Jahangir, in a huge gathering of renowned poets, literary personalities, and civil society members including patrons of Maraz Adbi Sangam, Ghulam Nabi Atash, Ajaz Ghulam Mohammad Laloo, and others.
