Bandipora: Police on Friday claimed to have arrested a militant affiliated with Lashkar-e-Toiba in Bandipora’s Markundal village.
The arrested militant identified as Shahbaz Rasool Mir of Hajin town was caught during a joint ambush laid by police, army and CRPF in Markundal village, senior superintendent of police Zulfikar Aazad said.
“A man was found in a suspicious condition and on being challenged by forces he tried to run away. But he was caught,” he added. According to the police, Shahbaz was affiliated with the LeT, which is believed to have presence in the district.
Shahbaz had announced his joining the militant outfit by circulating his photo in which he was seen holding AK-47 rifle. That photo went viral on social media soon after his arrest.
Police said they recovered a pistol, four rounds, one grenade, knife from
his possession and a case (FIR N0 83/2017) was registered in police station Sumbal.
