SRINAGAR: A group of traders and travel operators staged protest on Tuesday against the killing of seven Amarnath pilgrims.
The group carried placards in their hands at the Press Enclave Srinagar which read, “Traders Mourns yatra Attack, Stop Bloodshed in Kashmir, Attack on Yatris Attack on Kashmiriyat, We Condemn Barbaric Act.”
Athar Narwari, secretary of Travel Agents Association of Kashmir termed the attack as barbaric and demanded an independent probe into the incident.
“We condemn this barbaric attack and demand an independent probe should be conducted into the incident,” Nawari said.
He said that that the attack was a setback to the culture and ethos of Kashmir.
“This is for the first time we have seen Amarnath yatris being targeted. Yatris are our guests and we have been welcoming them since generations,” he added.
Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo, a member of Nigeen Tourist Traders Association, said that Islam does not allow killing innocent people. “Killing of one innocent person is the murder of entire humanity” he said. “We would continue to welcome yatris from the core of our hearts. They are our guests and we will continue to serve them warmly.”
Reacting to the Indian media coverage of the attack the General Secretary of TAAK said that Indian media should present all the facts clearly in front of its viewers. “Yesterday police clarified that the attack was not aimed at Amarnath yatris. However, the Indian media continues to present news according to their plan,” he said.
“It seems that they (Indian Media) are pushing its agenda to enforce economic blockade in Kashmir.”
