Damaged in 2005 earthquake, Zethan hospital building craves for attention

Baramulla: More than a decade has passed since a devastating earthquake damaged the building of health sub-center at Zethan village in Rafiabad pocket of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district but the authorities have failed to reconstruct the building causing innumerable hardships to the local population.
The residents of Zithan, Dogripora, Dalri and adjacent villages say that the building was declared unsafe by the authorities after it developed cracks. “We have pleaded with the higher ups to reconstruct the building but to no avail,” the residents aid.
“This government health center is one of the oldest health centres in Rafiabad area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district but it is in utter shambles,” he said. Gulam Nabi Wani, a local resident said that at least five villages are completely dependent on this sub centre and dozens of patients are visiting it daily,” he said.
The building is not only damaged and unsafe, it is too old and it’s all windows and doors are broken, an an employee of health department said.
Chief medical officer (CMO) Baramulla Dr Bashir Ahmad said that he will talk to concern BMO to take steps for its repairs or its reconstruction.
