Off-duty soldier, wife killed in cross LoC firing in Poonch

Jammu: Two civilians were killed and two others sustained injuries on Saturday as Indian and Pakistani troops exchanged heavy shelling and fired along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district.
However defence sources accused Pakistan of violating the ceasefire along the LoC and killing two civilians.
“The victims comprised an off-duty soldier and his wife. The couple’s two children were injured when a shell fired from across the border hit their house on the LoC in Gulpur area,” they said.
According to defence sources the firing which started from 6.30 a.m., was ongoing on when reports last came in. “Our forces are effectively retaliating,” Defence Ministry spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Manish Mehta told IANS.
