HC underscores Gandola safety, action against illegal constructions

SRINAGAR: The J&K High Court on Friday directed the chief executive officer of Gulmarg Development Authority and managing director cable car corporation to ensure security and safety of people taking a Gandola ride.
The court directed issued directions to file status report on the safety measures on the next hearing of the case. The court also instructed the government to recruit a medical doctor and a paramedic for the first aid assistance in case of any exigency. The court instructed the concerned authorities to ensure pruning of the trees standing along the ropeway.
The court also directed the public health engineering department to ensure safe drinking water to the inhabitants of Gulmarg.
“In the previous hearing, advocate general had stated that Draft Master Plan for Gulmarg would be placed before the cabinet for its approval. We hope and trust that in the interest of state and the government itself, the decision in this regard will be taken at the earliest,” the court said and directed the concerned to file the compliance report.
The directions followed submissions by senior advocate Z A Shah who maintained that lack of framing the master plan for the health resort has caused huge difficulties to the common people.
The court asked the concerned authorities to stop the construction activities construction activities which are being carried out without the grant of permission and all construction material being illegally transported must be seized by the authorities.
The clarification followed court’s directions on December 15 that all constructional activities be stopped at Gulmarg. The court has also directed that no building or constructional material shall be transported to Gulmarg till further orders. The advocate general had submitted that in the wake of these directions, all the constructional activities, whether legal or illegal, had come to a grinding halt in Gulmarg.
The court issued directions to deputy commissioner of Baramulla to be present on the next hearing of the case besides secretary of health and medical education and chief town planner (division Kashmir).
