Srinagar: At least nine persons including many women sustained injuries after government forces fired pellets to disperse the protesters in south Kashmir’s Shopian on Saturday on the first death anniversary of former militant commander Burhan Wani.
The incident took place in Bongam are of the town. Local sources told Kashmir Reader that forces swung into action to stop reverberating of pro-freedom songs being played on mosque loud speakers in the area.
Force’s action was resisted by local including women by pelting stones on forces as they alleged that forces tried to enter into the mosque.
Forces fired pellets injuring several including women, local sources said.
“A badly injured lady namely Sara Begum was referred to Srinagar,” hospital sources told Kashmir Reader. Sara’s husband was also among the injured they said.
Police sources said that the situation was immediately brought under control.
