Baramulla: Scores of people including the family members of a labourer of NHPC who was drowned in the Uri power canal four days ago while cleaning the canal, on Wednesday staged a protest against the NHPC authorities. The protesters demanded fixing responsibility on the death of the labourer Adil Ahmad of Salambad Uri.
“He was working in NHPC for last three years. No safety measures were provided to workers for their safety,” said the deceased’s cousin Shabir Ahmad.
Uri police have arrested two employees of NHPC for the negligence. However, the family and other people are continuously protesting against the NHPC for strict action and for a job to one of the members of a victim family.
The protesting people blocked the Srinagar-Muzafarabad road near Salambad for some time. However later a team of Uri police reached the spot and assured protesting people that they will take the matter with high officials of NHPC. The SDPO Uri Javid Ahmad confirmed that people staged a protest against the NHPC but later dispersed peacefully.
