Baramulla: A need based employee of Power Development Department (PDD) and commoner were electrocuted to death while another person was injured in Uri and Rafiabad areas of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday.
Reports said that a need based employee of PDD Fareed Ahmad Khan, a resident of Bimyar village of Uri was repairing an electric transformer in Limber village. During the process he touched a live wire and got electrocuted on Wednesday. The body of Khan remained stuck on the transformer for hours. Later, a team of police and PDD officials reached the spot and removed the body to hospital for postmortem.
Scores of people including family members of the deceased staged protests against the PDD’s negligence. The protesting people blocked the Srinagar-Muzafarabad road for hours.
Station house officer of Boniyar confirmed the death of employee. Police have registered a case in this regard and started investigations.
When contacted the executive engineer PDD Baramulla Jogindar Singh said that he was unaware about the accident. “I don’t know what happened and who was electrocuted. I have no such information,” Singh told Kashmir Reader in the evening.
Meanwhile, a person Khursheed Ahmed Najar son of Abdul Gaffar Najar of Dazna village of Rafiabad Baramulla was electrocuted to death when they tried to put a steel pipe inside a well which touched a live electricity wire. Najar’s co-worker Asif Ahmad Ganie was injured in the incident.
A police party later visited the area and began investigation in the mishap.
