Srinagar: President Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK), Dr G M Mir, has condemned the manhandling of a female medico at SDH Kangan by some attendants during the last night.
A statement issued by DAK said that attendants “who behaved as hooligans” stooped so low that they even abused the female medico.
The statement quoting the doctor said a 18-month-old child was brought to SDH casualty with symptoms of severe cough last night.
“On examination child was clinically diagnosed as a case of severe respiratory distress and was admitted immediately. The patient was advised for oxygen and nebulisation with levolin and other supportive treatment as per the treatment protocol and keeping the available resources and logistics into consideration,” the statement said.
The attendants refused oxygen therapy for the patient and were reluctant in referring him to SKIMS “thereby becoming an obstruction in the planned treatment protocol,” the DAK said adding that in the mean time the doctor got busy with another patient of poisoning.
“The child who was critically sick unfortunately expired and attendants started making hue and cry. They assaulted the doctor and other paramedical staff on duty in casualty and damaged hospital property also.”
DAK said the female doctor is in severe trauma after the incident.
Condemning the incident DAK blamed authorities of taking a “lacklustre approach” in making manhandling of doctors and damaging of hospital infrastructure, a cognisable offence.
It also appealed health authorities and police department to book the culprits “so that a sense of security is prevailed among doctors”.
