SRINAGAR: Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani, on Saturday said “Kashmir issue and other interrelated problems are quite different issues with differing background”.
Clarifying his stance about the implementation of GST in the state, Geelani in a statement said, “Besides Kashmir issue, we are facing various other problems. However, the business community and civil societies have their role to find (a) solution regarding implementation of GST and sort out the problems relating to their business they face.”
“However, it is very important to take extreme care that in no case should it change the discourse of our resistance movement and alter the status of Kashmir issue,” he said.
Geelani said “we are facing numerous such problems and Kashmir issue is the root cause of all issues including the discrimination, injustice and many more complex situations”.
He said the political uncertainty in the region will continue to loom if the resolution of Kashmir is delayed. “It is, as such, suggested and it is wise to concentrate on core issue related to Kashmir and avoid any such measures or step that may alter the discourse or hinder its resolution,” he said.
The Hurriyat (G) chairman said the State of Jammu and Kashmir enjoyed a special status however National Conference and other parties reduced it to “mere zero”. “And, as of now, this mere skeleton needs last rites for its burial.”
He said the Indira-Abdullah Accord of 1975 proved a last nail in the coffin of the special status of the state and “Sheikh dynasty, once for all, gave up its rhetoric about much hyped plebiscite slogan and stance,” he said.
