Bar condemns ‘targeted’ civilian killing, supports strike call

SRINGAR: J&K High Court Bar Association Srinagar, Saturday condemned the “targeted killing” of two civilians, including a woman at Dialgam Anantnag by the government forces and of injuring about 50 others, by bullets and pellets.
In a statement issued here, the Bar Association also condemned the injuring of about a dozen civilians at Sagam Kokernag, who were also protesting against the civilian killings at Dialgam Anantnag, “out of whom three received pellets in eyes” and were referred to Srinagar for specialized treatment.
The Bar also condemned the continued incarceration of Kashmiri detainees, who have served their period of detention, but have not been released by the police and “instead have been booked in false and fictitious cases and are also been harassed and tortured in different jails, both inside and outside the State and also of the maltreatment meted out to them by the jail authorities.”
The Bar said that by killing or injuring innocent civilians and keeping Kashmiris in jails and interrogation centres “they can’t subjugate and silence the people of Kashmir forever”.
The statement added that the Bar Association supports the strike call given by the pro-freedom leadership for Sunday.
