Woman injured in cross-border firing in Uri

Baramulla: A middle-aged woman was injured Friday morning when Indian and Pakistani troops exchanged gunfire in Uri sector of Baramulla district. Official sources said that the troops fired with heavy machine guns and mortars near the Salambad trade centre in the morning. A woman named Shakeela, wife of Yar Ali Khan, was hit by splinters when she was working outside her home in Behak along the Line of Control (LoC). People took the injured lady to sub-district hospital Uri from where she was referred to SKIMS Srinagar for further treatment.
A senior police officer posted in Uri confirmed the incident and said that the lady sustained injuries in cross-border firing at about 9am.
The Indian Army alleged that Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire and fired at Indian posts, which forced the Indian army to retaliate.
People living along the LoC in Uri sector said that the troops of the two nations have been targeting each other several times in the past three months. They said the constant firing has created panic among local residents.
