Anantnag gunfight; 17 civilians rescued: Police

Srinagar: Police on Saturday said that all the 17 civilians who were holed up with militants in a residential house in Dialgam area of Anantnag district have been rescued.
Earlier a standoff was going on after a cross-firing between government forces and holed-up militants in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, police said.
As per reports Bashir Lashkari, a militant commander believed to have masterminded an ambush in Achabal area where six policemen including a Station House Officer (SHO) was killed last month, is hiding in a house in Brenthi Batpora village.
Police said that after rescuing all the civilians from the area, operation against the militants has been resumed.
A lady was killed earlier after hit with a bullet near the encounter site.
At least 12 more civilians sustained injuries during clashes which started soon after forces started operation against the militants.
Sources said that four among them were hit with bullets. A critically injured, Tariq Ahmad was shifted to SKIMS Soura, they said.
