Protests in Kanihama after death of women post-childbirth

Baramulla: Residents of Kanihama area of Tangmarg in Baramulla district staged a protest on Thursday against doctors posted in sub district hospital Tangmarg, after the death of a woman post childbirth.
The protestors said that Rafeeqa Begum, wife of Mumtaz Ahmad Ganaie, of Kanihama Tangmarg was admitted in sub-district hospital (SDH) Tangmarg on Tuesday.
Her husband, Mumtaz said that Rafeeqa delivered a baby “normally”.
“The doctor played tricks with me and that my wife is safe, and referred my baby to Srinagar for checkup, when I left for home from Srinagar hospital I saw my wife was dead,” Mumtaz said.
“From others I came to know that had been referred to Lal Ded hospital as the maternity bleeding had not stopped and that she died on the way.”
The protesting questioned the referral to Srinagar, when “there is operation theater in SDH Tangmarg.” They demanded action against the hospital staff.
Block Medical Officer Tangmarg, Dr Jameel Ahmad told Kashmir Reader on Thursday said that chief medical officer has framed a three members enquiry committee comprising of SDM Tangmarg, BMO Kunzar and a doctor from district hospital Baramulla, which will submit its report to health department within a week.
