Srinagar: Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti Friday appealed the people of Kashmir not to “test the patience of Jammu and Kashmir police, who are always exercising utmost restraint”.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the wreath laying ceremony of the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP), Muhammad Ayoub who was lynched to death after he fired on civilians outside Jamia Masjid during the Shab-e-Qadr, Mehbooba said, “The Jammu and Kashmir Police are one of the best forces in the country and they are exercising utmost restraint because they believe that they are dealing with their own people. People shouldn’t test their patience.”
“God forbid, if this is the result of their restraint it’s going to be very difficult. For how long can this go on? Earlier six policemen including an SHO were killed in Achabal and now the lynching of Dy SP Sahab took place. I want to ask people, if this goes on, things may well go back to how they were, when people would run just upon seeing a (police) jeep on the road,” she said.
