Cloudbursts cause flash floods in Anantnag

Anantnag: Incessant rains and a cloudburst over the catchment area of Brengi Nallah have led to water logging in several parts of the district. Currents have also damaged roads and snapped of water supply pipes besides raising water levels in streams at many places.
The worst affected villages in these flash floods are Ahlan Gadole, Gohan, Vail, and Magraypora. Farmers told Kashmir Reader that crops have also been damaged in the aftermath of the flash floods.
Some residential houses were also damaged after flash floods and mud slides hit Kapran area of Verinag in Anantnag district. A cloudburst was reported over Vyeth-Vetastu Nallah in the area, which later caused mud slides and flash floods. The district administration has deployed JCBs and other machinery to clear the roads off boulders and mud for immediate restor ation of vehicular traffic.
Incessant rains and cloudbursts have led to increase in water levels in Sandran, Aaaripat, Vaishaw, Rambiara and Tongri tributaries of Jhelum river. This in turn has led to increase in water level in Jhelum river at Khannabal and Sangam.
Anantnag district administration officials visited Verinag to take stock of the situation. “The situation is under control,” Assistant Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Shabir Ahmad, told Kashmir Reader, adding that his team took stock of the situation in affected areas.
