Sopore: The government has shut down mobile service in parts of north Kashmir, following a cordon and search operation in Pazalpora area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Local sources believe two local militants were holed up in the village. However, government forces have not established any contact with militants.
Police sources said that a joint team of 22 Rashtriya Rifles, Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) and CRPF laid a siege at Pazalpora village late in the evening on Tuesday. The operation was going on till reports last came in.
Sources said that authorities directed all telecom companies, except BSNL, to shutdown mobile towers in and around Baramulla and Sopore towns with immediate effect.
