Srinagar: Director General of Police (DGP) Shesh Paul Vaid said on Friday that militants were targeting policemen because of their active role in anti-militancy operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Local police play an important and keen role in anti- militancy operations, which is why militants carry out attacks on them,” Vaid said. He was speaking to the media at the sidelines of a function for the launch of the CRPF’s ‘Madadgaar’ toll-free helpline.
Vaid said that militant attacks on policemen would be brought under control soon. “Such things will not continue here, as we are taking all measures to bring the situation under control soon,” he said.
Responding to the recent serial attacks on policemen in south Kashmir and the killing of a policeman in Srinagar’s Hyderpora on Thursday, Vaid said that it was evidence of the growing frustration of militants.
“It is the frustration of militants. Whether it is a civilian who dies or a militant or a policeman, it is only a Kashmiri who dies. This bloodshed will not lead us anywhere. This is simply a murder of humanity,” he said.
J&K Governor NN Vohra launched the CRPF’s ‘Madadgaar’ helpline, 14411, meant for the assistance of people of Kashmir. Speaking about the helpline, CRPF Director-General RR Bhatnagar, who came from Delhi for the event, assured that the CRPF will render all assistance and help in redressing the grievances of Jammu and Kashmir’s people.
