Srinagar: Authorities on Friday did not allow Friday prayers in the historic jamia masjid Srinagar and closed its gates.
Reports said that all routes leading to the mosque were also sealed to prevent people from gathering for weekly congregational prayers.
Pertinently, joint resistance leaders had called for protests after prayers against the civilian killing at Shopian at the hands of government forces.
Hurriyat (M) chairman and chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house detention last evening.
