Botingoo residents protest water shortage

Sopore: Acute shortage of drinking water triggered protests in Botingoo area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday.
Protesters hit the road and blocked the Sopore Bandipora road to demand water supply.
The protesters were raising slogans against the government and the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department.
“It is the month of Ramadan and instead of providing us adequate water supply they have stopped the routine water supply to our village,” Junaid Ahmad, a resident of Botingoo told Kashmir Reader.
“This is not the first time we are facing this kind of problem but in this holy month of Ramadhan it is very difficult to manage without water,” the protestors said.
The residents alleged that despite repeated pleas to the concerned department nothing was being done.
Executive Engineer of PHE Division Sopore told Kashmir Reader that due to the electricity problem the gauge was not working.
“It was windstorm again last night which affected power supply line again,” the official said and added that they were working to resolve the problem.
