Baramulla: Police in Pattan have arrested the father of Class 10 student Aqib Ahmad Malik of Singhpora, accused of stone-pelting.
Aqib, son of Fayaz Ahmad Malik of Singhpora Pattan in Baramulla district, is absconding for the past several days after police launched a search to arrest him on charges of stone-pelting.
The boy’s grandfather, Ghulam Ahmad Malik, told Kashmir Reader that Aqib left home a week ago and the family have no information of his whereabouts since then. He said that the boy disappeared because of the police hounding him, having raided their house several times to nab him. Last week, Ghulam Ahmad said, police arrested the boy’s father.
Aqib’s mother Shafiqa Begam said, “The police say they will not release Fayaz till Aqib surrenders. We are worried about both Aqib and his father. Aqib may have been involved in stone-pelting incidents last year but now he was regularly going to school and was preparing for his Class 10 board examinations.”
She appealed to the police to release her husband.
The station house officer (SHO) of Pattan, Mohammad Saleem, said that when the family will present Aqib before the police, Fayaz will be released. “We assure that we will not register any case against the son or the father,” the officer said.
