Srinagar: Police had to fire tear smoke shells to disperse hundreds of protesters who started raising pro-freedom slogans soon after the congregational prayers in Sopore on Friday, sources said.
They said that protesters started marching from the jamia masjid and raised anti-India slogans. They also raised slogans in favour of two local militants Aijaz Ahmed Mir and Basharat Ahmed Shiekh. Both Mir and Sheikh were killed by government forces during a shootout on Thursday.
The forces intercepted the marchers who pelted stones on them, local sources said. They added that forces retaliated with tear smoke shells triggering clashes.
