Srinagar: Of the 32 schools mysteriously burnt during the 2016 uprising, the government has released funds for reconstruction of only one school, which falls in chief minister Mehbooba Mufti’s Anantnag constituency.
Kashmir Reader has accessed an official order (114-edu of 2017, March 14) issued by principal secretary education that says Rs 2.57 crore have been sanctioned to Islamia Hanfia higher secondary school Anantnag for its rebuilding. The school was set ablaze by unknown people on October 29, 2016.
The school is run under the aegis of JK Waqf board. It has 600 students on its rolls and is being run in a building in It is learnt that the school education department projected an estimated cost of Rs 8 crore for reconstruction of all the schools burnt during last year. But apart from the Islamia Hanifa, the rest of the schools are awaiting the government’s funds, a top education department official said.
The majority of the schools burnt last year were in the four south Kashmir districts.
Speaking to Kashmir Reader, an official at the school education department said, “We just received the order copy. We had given a tentative estimate for all the damaged schools.”
