SRINAGAR: A communication breakdown forced around four dozen trucks laden with merchandise to return from Uri without transporting the goods to Muzaffarabad. The trucks remained halted for several hopurs at Trade facilitation Centre Uri and eventually were turned back after the contact was not established with the authorities on the other side of the Line of Control (LoC)
Police officials in Uri said that it seemed the communication system on the other side was defunct. The goods trucks pass on Tuesdays while the passenger buses are allowed passage on Monday every week.
The karwan-e-aman bus also returned from Uri on Monday due to the identical reasons.
Two suspected militants were killed in the area last week but the encounter is mired in controversy. While the Indian army claimed the slain persons were members of Border Action Team backed by Pakistan army, the locals said the two men were elderly and did not look like combatants.
The army launched massive crackdown in the area after the encounter.
