Srinagar: A Field Day on Wheat crop was organized at Mountain Research Centre for Field Crops Khudwani (MRCFC), of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir.
According to an official statement, Prof. Nazeer Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor SKUAST-K impressed on the scientists for land utilisation on scientific lines for enhancement of crop productivity.
“Redouble your efforts for increasing the productivity of wheat for ensuring food security and utilise farm machineries and mechanization for timely sowing and harvesting so that the dividends and research efforts ensure timely benefit to the farming community,” VC SKUAST-K said while advising the scientists. Hailing the achievements of the centre in field crop research and importance of the centre not only at the national but also at the international level, he also announced that the Rice Station Khudwani was soon establishing milling facility at the station for the benefit of farmers. Advising the farmers, he said: “Select and use the early maturing wheat varieties available at the Centre for food security and higher income and adopt crop diversification, go for integrated farming system and entrepreneurship development in vermicomposting to reduce the risk in view of climatic vagaries.” Director Extension SKUAST-K, Dr. Mushtaq A. highlighted the importance of food security and ways and means to achieve it. He said, “The station is in the process of developing the early maturing wheat varieties that can fit in the rice-wheat rotation so that the food deficits of the State can be met to a large extent.”
