AWANTIPORA: A police constable is admitted at SKIMS hospital in Srinagar in critical condition after being hit by a stone in his head at Awantipora in Pulwama district Wednesday night. The policeman has been identified as Riyaz Ahmad. He was among the escort of Superintendent of Police Awantipora when some unknown persons pelted stones on the police near Midoora village of Awantipora. The policemen were returning from Seer Jageer village of Tral where they were part of a daylong search and cordon operation. The injured constable was taken to a nearby hospital from where he was referred to SKIMS Srinagar. Police sources said that the constable is battling for life at SKIMS. Meanwhile, government troops called off a 17-hour cordon and search operation at Tral village in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday morning after no contact was made with any militant. Government forces launched a cordon and search operation at Seer Jageer village on Wednesday evening after inputs about the presence of militants in the village. Sources said that government forces sealed all the enty and exit points in the village on Wednesday evening.
