Srinagar: Clashes between government forces and protesters rocked the Lal Chowk and adjoining areas of Anantnag town in south Kashmir on Thursday.
Witnesses said that the trouble started after a heated argument between shopkeepers in the Dangerpora area and police personnel.
Alleging policemen of highhandedness, the shopkeepers said that they were beaten without any provocation.
This according to local sources led to spontaneous shutdown in the area and agitated shopkeepers started protesting against police.
Soon extra forces were rushed to the area who fired tear smoke shells on protesters resulting in clashes in the south Kashmir town.
