Court rejects bail of accused drug peddlers

Srinagar: A court in Srinagar rejected bail applications of two accused drug peddlers who were apprehended by police at Karan Nagar on February 12 allegedly along with 250gms of brown sugar.
Hearing the arguments of public prosecutor Mohammad Amin Bakaal that the number of drug peddling cases were increasing, while the accused were taking it easy and indulging in the crime again because of easy bail acceptance, 1st additional sessions Judge, Naseer Ahmed Dar rejected the bail application of Mohammad Yousuf Dunthoo  of Rampora Chattabal and Waseem Ahmed Sheikh of Makhdoom Colony Hawal.
The public prosecutor argued that it has become easy for drug peddlers to move out on bails granted by courts thus damaging the society.
Rejecting the defense counsel’s plea, the court said that accused cannot be granted bail as from their possession 250 gms of brown sugar drug has been recovered which falls under the category of “commercial quantity”.
The accused are booked under section 8/20 NDPS Act, in FIR no 7/2017.
