Srinagar: At least 30 civilians sustained injuries during clashes with government forces on Wednesday in Heff Shirmal area of Shopian district Wednesday.
The clashes erupted after forces cordoned the area and started search operation.
Local sources said that 20 injured with pellets have been moved to different hospitals like Zainapora, Pulwama and Anantnag.
Soon after the cordon ended locals while talking to media persons alleged that forces beat at least 60 civilians during house to house searches.
“Forces thrash and beat 50 young girls inside their houses during search operation,” they alleged.
They also alleged that forces severely beat family members of a local militant Sadam Paddar including his mother and took away their mobile phones.
“Army personnel ransacked dozens of residential houses during the operation and damaged properties,” locals alleged adding two youth Mairaj Ahmad Ganai and Khushal Hamid were also arrested by forces.
Government forces during wee hours had cordoned Heff Shirmal area of Shopian district after input about the presence of militants.
