Handwara: The two militants killed in a brief encounter on Sunday afternoon in Waripora area of Handwara were buried in Wadora during Sunday night, several kilometers away from the encounter site, an official said.
Earlier in the evening, police, with the help of some civilians, dug two graves at the ‘martyrs’ graveyard in Gantamulla area of Baramulla where police has buried over two dozen non-local militants in the past. Police, however, changed their mind and buried them in Wadora Bala along the forested in Handwara. The two graves in in Gantamulla Baramulla were still open.
“We dug the two graves in Gantamulla graveyard after we received information from police that they will move the two bodies here. We waited till 11 pm till police decided to bury them in Handwara,” a Gantamulla resident said.
SSP Handwara, Gulam Jeelani, confirmed that both the militants were buried in Wadora area of Handwara.
