‘Chilling centre’ inaugurated at Handwara

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Milk Producers Cooperative Limited (JKMPCL) on Saturday inaugurated bulk milk cooler (chilling centre) at Handwara area of Kupwara district. Minister for Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, Abdul Gani Kohli and Chief Executive Officer of JKMPCL Mayank Tiwari were also present on the occasion.
Faroq Ahmad, Protocol and Liaison Officer of the cooperative told Kashmir Reader that the chilling centre, worth Rs 30 lakh, would help to keep the temperature of milk at 4 degree centigrade for 24 hours.
“This technology will be helpful to a large extent. Here the milk will be preserved and then sent to a centre where other processing is done before the product is fed into the market,” Farooq added.
He said that the cooperative has already installed the chilling centre at 8 places in the valley. The cooperative’s total milk producing capacity is 30-35000 litres of milk.
