Srinagar: Students clashed with government forces at government polytechnic college in Srinagar’s Gogji Bagh on Saturday against the civilian killing in Kupwara.
The forces allegedly barged in the college premises firing teargas shells and pellets to disperse student protestors. They also accused the forces of damaging vehicles parked in the college.
“We were protesting peacefully when troopers used force without provocation to disperse the gathering,” said a student.
The college principal Shaista Shameem said that they were conducting exams for the first semester students of different colleges. As soon as the exams were over, students assembled and started holding protest.
She said that troopers used force against teachers after asking forces to not enter the premises. “Instead they used force on teachers too,” she told Kashmir Reader.
An eyewitness said that protests got intense after the forces damaged cars parked inside the campus.  “Police broke the mirrors of the vehicles and the nearby building when they were chasing off the protesters. They didn’t even spared the teachers of the college,” an eyewitness said.
SDPO Saddar police station was not available for comment.
