Srinagar: Weather department has predicted a possibility of more rain across plains in Kashmir valley while higher reaches may expect snowfall in next 72 hours.
“The intermittent rains will continue for next three to four days,” official said.
The valley experienced intermittent rains while the higher reaches, including the hill resort of Pahlagam, received fresh snowfall. Rains in Srinagar inundated streets causing inconvenience for the commuters.
In south Kashmir, Pahalgam and the surrounding hills received about six inches of fresh snowfall.
A meteorological department official said that active western disturbance over Pakistan and Kashmir was producing rains and snow. Fresh snowfall was also recorded in the higher reaches of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district. Officials said that two inches of snow was recorded in Sonamarg. The Srinagar-Leh highway, which remains closed throughout the winter, received four to five inches of fresh snow, they said.
Meanwhile, tourists thronged Sonamarg to witness snowfall.
