SRINAGAR: The presence of government forces near educational institutions vitiates the smooth educational environment as it creates hurdles in the movement of students and a sense of fear among them, Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu Kashmir said on Tuesday.
In a statement issued here, Jam’aat said it seems a “deliberate attempt to provoke” the young and teenage students. “On 24th April, by harassing students reading in SP College, SP Higher Secondary School, Women’s College, Kothi-Bagh Higher Secondary Institute, the smooth educational atmosphere was deliberately disturbed and when students protested peacefully against this intimidation, the forces personnel used undue power of lathi-charge and tear smoke shelling upon the young generation and thereby ruined the cordial atmosphere of these institutions and a number of innocent students got injured and a number of them were also apprehended by the police,” it said.
“Jama’at considers these atrocious forces and police actions as unjustified and illegal which tantamount to ruining of the educational career of students,” it added.
Jama’at also demanded immediate and unconditional release of the apprehended students.
