PDP functionaries in Uri quit to join Congress

Baramulla: Two senior functionaries of ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) including a former district president of youth wing Dr Shabir Ahmad Mangriyal of border town Uri quit the party to join the Congress. The floor crossing took place in presence of state Congress president Gulam Ahmad Mir and former minister Taj Mohiudin.
Elaborating on his decision to quit the ruling party, Shabir said the ruling party was playing with the lives of Kashmiri people and with their dignity and honour. “This is the reason that I have resigned from the party and joined the Congress,” he told Kashmir Reader.
He said that he was associated with the PDP for the past 10 years. “I contested  2008 assembly elections from Uri on PDP ticket. I worked as a worker on ground level and fetched 16000 votes in parliament elections for Muzaffar Hussain Beigh who is now parliament member of PDP. However, since last year we saw how BJP and RSS along with PDP played a blood bath in Kashmir valley,” he said. He said that a group of PDP workers also joined the Congress party.
Congress state president G A Mir, Taj Mohiudin, Gulam Ahmad Monga and other senior leaders present on the occasion hailed the new entrants to the party. Meanwhile, another leader of PDP Najeeb Naqwi along with his supporters rejoined the Congress party after quitting it four years ago.
