Students, workers from Indian states safe in Kashmir: Shabir Shah

SRINAGAR: Strongly condemning the harassment and threatening of Kashmiri students in Indian states, the chairman of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah on Saturday said “such incidents vindicate our stand that a war has been waged against Muslims in general and Kashmiris in particular since BJP came to power in New Delhi”.
In a statement issued here, Shah said despite such provocative acts, lakhs of Indians working and studying in Kashmir are treated in a very humane manner.
“We want to assure all those students and workers from Indian states that they need not worry about anything and continue with their routine as our fight is with those who have usurped our rights and have illegally occupied our state,” he said.
Shah said not everyone Indian possesses “anti-Kashmir” and “anti-Muslim” mindset; but there are thousands including several intellectual groups who are objective in their approach, stand with truth and support our cause.
He appealed to people of India to treat Kashmiri youth the same way as Kashmiris treat the labourers and students coming from Indian states besides impress upon their rulers to fulfill the promises they have kept with the people of Jammu Kashmir.
Shah said intimidating Kashmiris in Indian states is a “coward act” and alleged those involved are backed by Saffron parties. He said if any untoward happens with Kashmiris, the government of India would be responsible.
The DFP chairman said the “provocative” statements by BJP leaders Rajnath Singh, Ram Madhav, Chander Prakash Ganga are “expected” but “the shocking part is the silence maintained by PDP leaders and members who are concerned only of their positions”.
“We hope PDP members, by keeping in view the prevailing situation, collectively resign from assembly,” he said.
