New Delhi: The army has ordered a Court of Inquiry into the controversial “human shield” incident in which a Kashmiri man was tied to the bonnet of an army jeep in Budgam on April 9. Army sources said that inquiry has been given one month’s time to complete the probe.
The Court of Inquiry( CoI) will look into the circumstances that prompted an army major to tie the Kashmiri youth to the jeep’s bonnet as a “human shield”. The CoI has been given time till May 15 to probe the incident, the sources said.
Army Chief General Bipin Rawat visited Jammu and Kashmir following the incident and later apprised National Security Advisor Ajit Doval of the security situation in Kashmir Valley. Gen Rawat also had separate deliberations with Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Governor NN Vohra over the law-and-order situation in Kashmir during his visit.
