SRINAGAR: The ruling PDP on Monday condemned the police assault on students in Pulwama and intrusion of troops into academic institutions, while suggesting that the government should shut educational institutions.
In a statement, the PDP demanded “immediate probe and stern action against the personnel involved in disturbing the peace of the college and use of any force against students and the staff.”
“The party feels that the outrage from students on the provocative incident is natural and appeals to the student community to maintain calm as peace at educational institutions is paramount to their future,” the PDP said in its statement.
The PDP assured the student community that those responsible for undermining the respect of students and teachers would not be able to escape punishment.
Party general secretary Nizamudin Bhat was quoted in the statement as saying, “Till appropriate action with immediate probe against culprits is not taken, it is desirable to shut educational institutions.”
“Without trust and cooperation of students, the institutions cannot function. Prudent approach is the need of the hour,” Bhat was quoted as saying.
