Officer who had youth strapped to jeep not at fault: report

SRINAGAR: Despite a case filed by JK Police, the BJP-led government in New Delhi has decided to stand by the army officer who ordered the strapping of a youth in Budgam to an army jeep on April 9.
“The government has taken note of the army probe into the April 9 incident which concluded that the commanding officer took the decision reluctantly and as the last resort after he realised that his unit had to pass through streets crowded with a group of stone-pelters who had also taken positions on surrounding rooftops,” The Times of India reported.
The incident took place on the day the Srinagar parliamentary constituency went to polls in a by-election.
The youth, Farooq Ahmad Dar of Chil Bras, in Khansaheb was paraded by the army.
