Srinagar: Authorities have ended the house detention of many pro-freedom leaders however Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Shabir Ahmad Shah continue to remain under house arrest.
Sources in the pro-freedom camp told Kashmir Reader that Hurriyat (G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar was released from a month long house detention two days back.
They said that media advisor to Mirwaiz, advocate Shahid ul Islam was also released from a month long house detention today.
While most of the pro-freedom leaders were either arrested or detained in their houses prior to Srinagar Lok Sabha by-polls, Geelan’s house detention is going on since 2010.
They said that hundreds of youth and political activists are still languishing in different jails and police stations.
Sources in the pro-freedom camp added that many of the detenues are suffering from ailments and they are not provided any medical facility.
“The jail doctor recently wrote to authorities to shift one Tariq Ahmad Ganai to Srinagar jail for necessary treatment but authorities don’t pay any heed to it,” sources said adding Tariq of Shopian is undergoing detention in Kupwara jail despite his term of PSA ended on February 28.
Tariq is suffering from many serious ailments like hypertension, diabetes and heart ailment. Sources said that Tariq’s health is deteriorating after every passing day and despite doctor’s written recommendation he is neither being released nor shifted to Srinagar.
